Parish Online News - Jan Edition

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone, we hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

Here at Parish Online we're already working hard on upgrades and thinking about how we can make the software even better.

We have exciting things planned this year, which will make Parish Online an even more efficient tool for asset management, neighbourhood planning, climate and energy planning, and much more. We can't wait to share them with you all.

Don't forget, if your council are planning on using digital mapping for any interesting projects this year, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we'll feature it on the website.

Flooding Preparedness

Parish Online has been used by many local councils to help them plan for flooding events in their local area. Here are some steps you can take to produce mapping to assist your mitigation and clear-up efforts.

  • Using datasets loaded into Parish Online, for example the 'Environment Agency - Flooding' layers, to help map out areas at risk of flooding.
  • Use different markings and colours to plot different features such as houses and roads.
  • Use 'Class-based styling' to indicate which years flooding had occurred.
  • If possible, uploading images or documents to support and show areas at risk.

"Parish Online allows us to use information to prepare for possible future flooding and to evidence responses to planning applications in areas where flooding has been an issue, but which is not evident from the Environment Agency overlays. I would recommend using Parish Online for uses similar to this as it provides a simple and easy method." Mike Oldnall, Neighbourhood Plan Steering Team to Uffington Parish Council.

Producing a map for a Planning Application

Local Councils may, on occasion, need to produce a Block Plan or a Location Plan as part of a planning application submission. This can be done in Parish Online without having to purchase mapping from other websites.

We've created a knowledge base article which shows you how to create as many planning application maps as you like, for free.
