Parish Online News - September Edition

Preparing for the Halloween Season

With Halloween fast approaching, you may be planning spooky events for your community area.

Digital mapping can serve as the perfect planning tool. Why not use Parish Online to:

1. Specify event locations
2. Allocate car parks
3. Plan assembly areas for safety vehicles
4. Prepare access/egress routes for emergency and local authority vehicles
5. Plot where stalls will be situated
6. Manage the event safely, bearing in mind potential COVID restrictions

Need that little bit of extra help?

Getting to grips with digital mapping can be at times overwhelming, that's why we've partnered with Chagos Consulting who can provide one-to-one Parish Online training.

Meet Graham from Chagos Consulting. As a Parish Councillor and a keen user of Parish Online, he can provide real-world examples and advise you on how to make the most of digital mapping.

Graham provides the following services;
1. Training for you and your team. Get a friendly helping hand to walk you through the basics of Parish Online. Before you know it, you'll be an expert user!
2. Building your Asset Register. Need help getting the things you own into Parish Online? Graham will help with that initial loading of the data then teach you how to keep it up-to-date.
3. Troubleshooting and Consultancy. Whether you're wondering what to do with Parish Online after your neighbourhood plan, or have a specific project you need help with, ask Graham to guide you through it.

Barnham and Eastergate Create their Neighbourhood Plan

“We would recommend Parish Online to every local council. We've saved so much time and have been able to use several tools within the software to help out our Parish."

Originally Barnham and Eastergate used Parish Online mainly to produce maps for inclusion in parish documents. However when it came to revising their neighbourhood plan during 2020/21 they used the new facilities available in the product to produce interactive maps for the public to be able to fully see and understand the issues being discussed.

National Map Structure Change

We've updated the National Map structure in Parish Online to make the collections clearer.

When you next login to Parish Online, you'll notice that Allotments and Cemeteries are now in separate collections.

When you hover over the layers and collections, a brief description will pop-up describing that layer in more detail.

If you have any suggestions on new fields, send us an email.

This Month's FAQ

Q. How many users can we have?
A. You can add as many users as you'd like. User accounts allow a clerk to share responsibilities with councillors, neighbourhood plan groups, volunteers or consultants.
Accounts can be set to limit the user's ability to view and edit data. This ensures that data can only be edited by chosen users. User accounts can't be shared with the public, but if there's information that you want the public to be able to view, use the Public Map Tool.
